Why should I not use a sender address in a generic domain

Oxemis has always discouraged its customers from sending campaigns with sender addresses linked to so-called "FreeMail" domains, such as Yahoo, AOL, Gmail or Hotmail. Indeed, more and more spam filters check that an email sent with a hotmail address (for example) has been routed with the hotmail platform and classify the email as spam if this is not the case.

This is the principle of the DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting and Conformance) policy, which has existed for many years, but has been deployed at high speed since the beginning of 2014.

On 22/04/2014, Yahoo moved up to the next level. Through its DMARC registration, Yahoo now gives the instruction to simply reject all emails signed with a sender address in @yahoo.* and that have not been sent by Yahoo's servers.

Gmail has announced the publication of a restrictive DMARC from Q1 2024.

It is likely that ISPs will also turn to DMARC in the near future.

The conclusion: More than ever, use sender email addresses attached to your own domain name.

Please note that OxiMailing also offers to reserve your own domain name without any technical intervention on your part. To find out more: How and why reserve a domain name with OxiMailing?
